This 2018 book replete with massive data from newspaper advertisements and other primary sources reveals much about the degree to which slavery was embedded in antebellum Tennessee. It also debunks the myth that Tennessee's version of slavery was any less inhumane than slavery in any other part of the South. An incredible book for students of Southern history, regardless of their age.
